Unfiltered with Kiran is a Baton Rouge-based investigative journalism outlet covering local news, true crime, and cold cases with a fiercely independent voice. The existing infrastructure could not keep up with the publication's ambitions: the website was slow, difficult to manage, and the companion mobile apps lacked a seamless connection to the web content the audience expected. Mithril rebuilt the platform from the ground up, creating a scalable, API-driven content ecosystem that powers both the web experience and native mobile apps on iOS and Android.

How we got there

The Problem

The Solution

The website was migrated to a modern, performant infrastructure capable of handling the publication's content volume and growth. A YouTube API integration was implemented to surface the latest news videos directly on the site in real time. Location-based news aggregation was built to organize stories by parish and geography, giving Baton Rouge readers an immediately relevant experience. A direct podcast integration brings long-form investigative content into the same ecosystem as the news feed. A WordPress REST API integration was built to power native mobile apps on both Apple and Android, ensuring that every piece of content published to the site flows automatically to every surface where the audience engages with the brand. Ad management tooling was also improved to give the editorial team better control over placement and performance.
