40 years of San Diego flavor, reimagined for the digital age

Sombrero Mexican Food has been a San Diego institution for 40 years, serving hand-crafted Mexican favorites across 16 locations throughout the region. When ownership came to Mithril, the website had fallen behind the brand it was meant to represent. The user experience was fragmented, the mobile interface was frustrating, and the catering workflow required too many steps to be practical. We rebuilt the site with the end customer as the north star: a fast, mobile-first experience that makes it easy to find a nearby location, browse a fully native menu optimized for search, and build a catering quote without ever needing to pick up the phone.

How we got there

The Problem

The Solution

We replaced the outdated design with a modern, mobile-first build that reflects the energy and warmth of the Sombrero brand. A location-aware finder was built into the site architecture so users can immediately identify their closest restaurant. The menu was migrated off iFrame-based third-party embeds and rebuilt natively in the CMS, giving every menu item its own indexable URL and significantly expanding organic search reach. The catering workflow was redesigned as a self-serve quote builder, removing friction from the process and empowering customers to build and submit packages on their own time.
